Mike's career started the way most journalism careers do — long hours, small markets, and the kind of pressure that teaches you to write a clean sentence on deadline. He worked his way up to anchoring evening newscasts at ABC affiliates, covering hurricanes from the coast, interviewing congressmen and sheriffs and disaster survivors, and breaking stories that ran the next morning in the local paper.

Along the way he noticed something. The local businesses, nonprofits, and public officials he interviewed almost always had a real story to tell — but most of them had no idea how to tell it in a way that newsrooms could actually use. Press releases were buried in jargon. Spokespeople froze on camera. Good organizations doing important work were getting overlooked because nobody had taught them how the media side of the table actually works.

He's also been doing social media since the MySpace and early Facebook days — long before "content creator" was a job title.
